My modified Tacamo Type 68 rail and red dot setup
« on: March 03, 2010, 11:59:40 PM »

Hey everyone. I saw no one has posted here so figured I'd give it a go. Here's my current setup I have going on (I'm getting ready to stain all of the wood because the new wooden stock I ordered is a different color than the rest of the pieces).

The scuffs near the stock are from where I used to have the metal folding stock, and there was a metal plate that covered the rear of the gun. The stock since broke, and I replaced it with a brand new wooden stock.

(In this picture below the red dot needs a good cleaning, in case anyone was wondering :P)

I also have a 3 point tactical sling I use so I the weight is evenly distributed.
Oh and does anyone know where we should be watching for when all of these new products will be released Jetson is speaking of? I would probably like to get a new e-trigger (as long as it keeps the look of the pistol grip, and doesn't replace it with a black plastic one or what not) and maybe a bipod. Also, does anyone know if they plan on releasing an anti-chop bolt you could install in your T68? My Tacamo chops like a chef and it's not a loading issue. And just an opinion, but I know all paintballers would go crazy if they made a dragunov upgrade kit for the type 68's or just a new Tacamo dragunov marker. Or at least I would :D

I forget which rail system I bought (it was about two years ago) but I had to find the thickest part of the AK body (luckily it's towards the middle) and then drill it out. I used two pop rivets to secure it in place. I forget all of the details (this was a while ago) but be sure to use the larger size rivets. I had to use one bigger rivet and another smaller one, and the plate that the rail attaches too ended up becoming loose so I had to drill out the small rivet and replace it with a larger one.

And when you stained your AK, did you have to sand down all of the grips before you applied the stain? Thanks

well, when i stained, i first sanded everything down with some 80 grit to get rid of the poly coating on top. after you have sanded thoroughly, move up to some 120 grit and sand again, making your wood smooth. this part is crucial because the clear coat will prevent any stain from getting through and will make your project look horrible. now once you have your grips down to the wood, you can go ahead and apply a coat of pre-stain. this will allow your grips to be stained more evenly. next you use any stain you like (make sure its darker). i used two coats of stain. when you let that sit overnight, you should be ready to use your clear coat. sand again lightly with your 120, and then put on a thin coat of poly. read the directions as to make sure how long you have to let that sit. after it is dry sand again very lightly with your 120 to get rid of all the bubbles. and repeat to however many coats you want.
good luck, Nick
